Yes that correct, AVG 9 can be installed on your computer and offer basic protection against internet nasties for free. The only restriction is that you must be a private and personal user, and it must not be used commercially.
Even though the AVG company has been showing a all users a notice that the version 8.5 runs out on December 1st, and offers upgrades to version 9 at a great price, you do not need to pay to continue to use AVG.
If you would like to know how, read on….
Start your favourite internet browser. If it is not Mozilla Firefox then you should try Firefox as it will give a better web experience. In the address bar, (not a search box in a toolbar, this is very important) type the following www.free.grisoft.com. This will open the free website where you can download the install file. You must follow the instructions carefully or you will end up with the wrong version.
Click on the GET IT NOW button.
Go to the bottom of the feature comparison list and click on the DOWNLOAD button below Free*.
On the next page note the TABS at the top of the graphic. Click on Installation Files.
Now you will see the two files for download. DO NOT download the smaller file as it is a download manager of the kind that should be banned from the internet. Make sure you click on the larger file and download it to your computer.
Make sure you take note where the file is downloaded to. After the file is downloaded in a few minutes or longer depending on your internet connection, you can install the latest version of AVG. Make sure you never consent to include any toolbar or agree to send information. I suggest you do not allow daily scanning since there should be no virusses get into your computer. It is a good idea however to scan your computer after install and update.
If you need to install to another computer or a friend’s computer, all you need to do is copy the install file to a removable drive.
Finally remember there is no support for this product other than internet forums and friends. I give this information on an as is basis for you consideration with the suggestion that it may help your computing experience. If you need help it will not be free.
