Hi folks, The couple of pictures on this page were posted on the night of the relay from my mini notebook with wireless internet. I now have the photos from the event loaded to the web site and you can get to them whith the link below. There were quite a lot of photos so I had to cull heavily to make sure I had the best. If your photo is not here, it was blurred, unflattering or I thought not appropriate (not very likely), or there were many similar and you happened to not be in the one I used. If this is your problem let me know and I might be able to find one you were in.

Is it a year since the last relay already. We have now done 7 years and are still having fun. Expect us to be back for number eight. It was nice to see the huge numbers of young people there all having good fun with their teams all night. Yours truly managed to make it through till around 5:00am then the inevitable happened.. I crashed. After about half an hour I was back but it was a rather short return. I had some early brekkie and relaxed on the casting couch for a few minutes. Someone put a blanket over me and since I was now cosy I slept.. and slept… Next thing the tent behind me had disappeared and it was nearly all over.

The event was hugely successful with fundraising running near $185,000.00. The Top fundraiser honour went to Blackwater team Pink Angels. Several other teams put in massive effort. Cheekier Cheerleaders and Vampires Inc involved people I know as well as quite a few others including Circle of Friends.

They called it heaven on earth on the six o’clock news. Over three hundred classic cars were displayed in Bell Park for the event on Sunday 24^th May 09.  An estimated 15 to 20 thousand people turned out for one of the most successful shows ever seen on the coast. Millions of dollars of vehicles on show ranged from starter project such as the Tiny Toyota to fully restored Rolls Royce silver cloud.

A good contingent of motor this year meant there was really something for everyone to check out. There was a fair number of classic Yank Tanks with the big opulent over the top styles very interesting. Two matching Mercedes limousines were seen leaving in the convoy leaving after the awards were made at just after two o’clock.

All the food vendors either sold out or had very little left. Hundreds of pies, burgers, hot dogs and beverages were served to the hungry hoards. Lions served a mountain of steak burgers, chips and other foods until they ran out just before the end. Many frantic trips were made to local butcher, baker and corner store to get more food. The chip cookers ran hot for hours until the gas ran out and cooking had to cease.

If you missed this day, you should be kicking yourself. It was one to remember; a class show all the way.

This was no two bob job, in fact there were a huge group of local musicians performing sixty-eight Dylan songs, one for each year of his productive life so far. A man of many seasons and styles he has impacted many genres of music all over the world. There would be plenty of diversity for each musician to take on a style that suited their talents. This was to be a themed show that would make everyone proud.

Denis gave a memorable performance of some great songs.

The night held at the Fitzroy Motor Boat Club thrilled dozens of Dylan fans with one of the best events concieved by member of the Coowonga folk club lead by our own Dylanmeister Denis Harris. It was a huge night running seven hours almost non stop with solo and band acts. There was a good bit of improvisation and helping  each other as well as harmonica by Denis to help out several acts. You see Dillon just screams for harmonica solos at every second verse. As the night wore on the music got more energetic with some numbers driving the fans into a dancing frenzy.

I was surprised to learn that some of my favourite songs by other artists were in fact written by Bob. I could rave for ages about the great renditions from the very talented local artists but since they were all so good it would not be fair to highlight any single performance. I lost count of how many songs were actually performed but By my reckonning there was around seventy songs. Take out the two that were repeated and I would say “mission accomplished.”
